Best Oils For Dry And Damaged Hair

Almost all types of oils are good for damaged and dry hair. To cure this problem, you need to apply good oil that repairs and protects hair. These are essential oils and carrier oils.
Essential oils
These are made with plant extracts. Rich in scent, these are popular because of their aromatic quality. Essential oils are rich in nutrients that give required nourishment to damaged hair, thus making them strong, soft and supple. These oils contain many vitamins and minerals that are found in the plants these are made from. It is highly nourishing dose for sticky, oily hair as well.
The most widely used essential oils include rose, lavender, basil, jasmine, sage, lemongrass and rosemary.
Precaution: Since essential oils are too strong in their pure form, it is better to dilute them with carrier oil.
Carrier oils
Unlike essential oils, these are non-scented. These are usually made with vegetables and nuts. You can apply these alone or with any essential oil. They have powerful nutrients for nourishing damaged hair, but their affects are not as good as of essential oils. Therefore, these are best used in combination with essential oils. Popular carrier oils are almond, coconut, olive, canola, hazelnut, wheat germ, vegetable and jojoba.
Proportion
The ideal amount mainly depends upon your specific requirement, preference and condition of hair.
Short and thin hair: Use one tablespoon of oil.
Long and thick hair: Apply one-third (1/3) cup.
Mixture should have carrier oil as the major ingredient and a few drops of essential oils. The more essential oil is added, stronger the aroma will be.
Medium length hair: Mix 1/4 cup of carrier oil mixture and add 2 to 8 drops of essential oil in it. For example, you can have 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil mixed with 1 drop of lemon grass oil and 2 drops of lavender oil.
How to use
For best results, warm oil in a pan or microwave for about ten seconds and then apply generously all over scalp. Wash with shampoo and warm water. Don’t use any conditioner after that, as the oil will provide sufficient moisture.
